Care Home Open Week gave our homes the perfect opportunity to swing open our doors and welcome families, friends, neighbors, and local community partners inside. From 15 to 21 June 2026, it was a beautiful chance to share the warmth, vibrant energy and joyful everyday life that make each of our communities so distinct.

With a thrilling World Cup theme bringing extra excitement to the schedule, our residents occupied themselves into a spectacular week filled with football matches, themed afternoon teas, live music, and creative arts. Here is a look at how our incredible homes brought the tournament spirit to life.

Getting Active: Armchair Football & Fitness Fanatics

Movement and laughter took center stage as our homes transformed their lounges into indoor stadiums, proving that staying active is all about having fun together.

The Rivers: Residents bonded over dementia-friendly chair football exercises that naturally encouraged physical movement, coordination, and friendly participation.

Amberley House: The team hosted a lively armchair penalty shootout that was bursting with competitive spirit, which they paired with a football exercise class focusing on goal-scoring games, ball skills, and plenty of conversation.

Sovereign House: Residents tested their coordination with World Cup-themed keepie-uppies, where every single participant was rewarded with a well-deserved chocolate bar treat.

Elm Lodge: Team spirit was high as residents practiced shooting goals into the training nets, cheering each other on with every successful strike.

Creative Crafts & Upcycled Masterpieces

Arts, crafts, and baking projects allowed our residents to showcase their  artistic talents while designing unique tournament memorabilia.

Hillcrest House: Teamwork shone in the kitchen as residents decorated a fantastic football pitch cake. Meanwhile, resident David scored serious points by painting a football target game built from recycled materials by the maintenance team.

Hourigan House: Residents channelled their inner fashion designers by crafting their very own handmade footballs and designing custom team shirts from scratch, before settling down for a relaxing game of bingo.

Garswood House: Creativity and festival vibes took over as residents created beautiful handmade greeting cards and spent the afternoon decorating the entire home ready for the tournament.

Themed Afternoon Teas & Global Feast Days

Food has a wonderful way of uniting people, and our culinary teams pulled out all the stops to deliver global flavours and classic British spreads.

Grenville Court: Celebrations kicked off with a World Cup-themed afternoon tea, followed later in the week by an ‘Around the World’ buffet that brought everyone together through a mutual love of good food and football memories.

Cheaney Court: Families joined residents for a glorious themed afternoon tea, which was balanced later in the week by an educational coffee morning focused beautifully on nutrition, hydration, and general resident wellbeing.

Broadgate: Alongside a classic British afternoon tea, residents expanded their horizons with a vibrant ‘Taste of the World’ day, which was seamlessly paired with an immersive flamenco dance and Spanish culture session.

Sharp Minds and Golden Memories:Quizzes, Dominoes & 1966 Reminiscence

Nurturing cognitive health and tapping into precious memories provided some of the most heartwarming, deeply emotional moments of the week.

The Cedars: The home hosted nostalgic ‘tea and chat’ sessions utilizing World Cup memory cards. Residents also enjoyed lively rounds of floor dominoes, flag painting, prize bingo, and a family-friendly trivia quiz.

Broadgate & Cheaney Court: Residents at both homes took an emotional trip down memory lane, sharing vivid firsthand memories and stories of England’s historic 1966 World Cup triumph, proving that true passion for the game never fades.

Heartwarming Intergenerational & Community Connections

Bridging the gap between generations and welcoming local community pillars brought an abundance of smiles, comfort, and vital social interaction to our residents.

The Rivers & Cheaney Court: Both homes welcomed local school children through their doors, sparking beautiful intergenerational conversations, shared laughter, and invaluable community connections.

The Cedars: Residents welcomed a local priest for a peaceful visit. The afternoon sparked fond memories of historic church and community life, with a dedicated singing and prayer session already requested for the future.

Music, Entertainment & Grand Finales

No tournament celebration is complete without an unforgettable after-party, and our homes certainly knew how to close out the week in style.

Holcroft Grange: The team hosted a spectacular World Cup Football Garden Party at the Holcroft Sundial Bar. Residents enjoyed an array of football dart boards and balloon tennis, topped off with a delicious lunch, drinks, and non-stop dancing.

Garswood House: The dining room was transformed into a lively party hub as residents tucked into a classic menu of burgers and chips before firing up the karaoke machine for an afternoon of singing and dancing.

Cheaney Court: The incredibly talented Julie Ray performed a live musical set that had everyone singing along, which perfectly complemented an active living session hosted by EB Fitness.

Sovereign House & Broadgate: Rounding off their busy schedules with classic British traditions, Sovereign House residents headed out to the local community for a hearty pub lunch, while Broadgate celebrated family connections with a traditional Sunday roast and Father’s Day reflections.
