Minster Care Homes across the UK celebrated Valentine’s Day with a week full of joy

Valentine’s Day in care homes is a wonderful reminder of how important companionship and meaningful moments are in later life. Across Minster Care Group, residents and teams came together to celebrate with music, crafts, baking, parties and heartfelt moments designed to support wellbeing and bring happiness to everyday life.

At Minster Care, our lifestyle teams plan seasonal celebrations throughout the year, recognising the important role they play in supporting residents’ emotional and social wellbeing. This year’s Valentine’s celebrations were a perfect example of how meaningful activities enrich life in residential care homes.

Creative Activities That Bring Residents Together

Valentine’s week began with creative activities and arts and crafts sessions. Residents enjoyed making handmade cards, paper flowers, decorations and gifts to share with loved ones and visiting children from the community.

These activities encourage creativity, stimulate memory and help residents feel engaged and connected to those around them.

Creative celebrations took place at homes, including Wealstone in Chester, The Hawthorns in Wilmslow, Broadgate Nursing Home in Nottingham, Holcroft Grange in WarringtonLittleport Grange in Ely, Kingfisher Care Home in North Shields, Freeland House in Witney, Garswood House in Wigan, and Crossways in Northwich.

Baking and Afternoon Teas

Food plays a special role in bringing people together, and kitchens across our care homes were filled with delicious Valentine’s treats. Residents baked heart-shaped biscuits, jam tarts and cakes before enjoying afternoon teas and shared meals with friends and staff.

Sharing food and mealtimes is a simple yet powerful way to create memories and strengthen relationships in care homes.

Celebrations took place at Grenville Court in Norwich, Turnpike Court in Sandbach, Astbury Lodge in Ellesmere Port, Elm House in Nantwich, Garswood House in Wigan, Crossways in Northwich and Broadgate Nursing Home in Nottingham.

Music, Dancing and Celebration Across Our Homes

Valentine’s celebrations continued with parties, live music and entertainment. Residents enjoyed karaoke, sing-alongs, discos and beautifully decorated dining experiences that brought smiles and laughter to everyone involved.

Music has a powerful ability to spark memories and create moments of joy, making it an important part of well-being.

Homes taking part included Abbeywell Court in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Grenville Court in Norwich, Turnpike Court in Sandbach, Freeland House in Witney, Astbury Lodge in Ellesmere Port, Garswood House in WiganEagle View in Scarborough, The Lakes in Towcester, Holcroft Grange in Warrington and Red Hill in Worcester.

Love Advice From Our Residents

One of the most meaningful parts of the week came from conversations with residents about love and relationships. Their advice was heartfelt and timeless: be kind, spend time together, keep laughing and always look after one another.

Residents from Red Hill in Worcester, Abbeywell Court in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Eagle View in Scarborough shared their wisdom, reminding us that love grows stronger with time and shared experiences.

The Teams Behind the Celebrations

None of these moments would be possible without the dedication of our teams. From decorating homes and organising activities to baking treats and arranging entertainment, our colleagues work hard to create warm and welcoming environments every day.

This commitment to compassionate, person-centred care is what makes Minster Care homes feel like home.
