Hillcrest House is a nursing care home providing comprehensive residential, nursing, dementia, respite, and palliative care for older people across Cornwall. As part of Minster Care Group, our home is committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred elderly care in a safe and welcoming environment.
Spotlight Week is our opportunity to celebrate the people, moments, and experiences that define daily life within our care home in Looe.
We believe care is about more than meeting needs; it is about supporting our residents to continue living meaningful and fulfilling lives. This month’s Spotlight Week beautifully reflected those values in action.
Bringing Joy to Everyday Life
National Chopstick Day
Meaningful activities are a vital part of life at Hillcrest House Care Home in Looe, Cornwall. Our activity-based care approach supports residents receiving residential, nursing, and dementia care by encouraging social interaction, coordination, and shared experiences.
During National Chopstick Day, residents and team members took part in a friendly chopstick challenge that quickly filled the home with laughter. What began as a light-hearted activity became a joyful afternoon of connection and humour. One resident playfully held her chopsticks like radio antennas and joked she was “trying to get the BBC”.
At Hillcrest House, we understand that engagement and enjoyment are essential components of high-quality elderly care.
Celebrating Dedication
Michelle, our longest-serving team member, began her journey at Hillcrest House in November 1989. For over 36 years, she has supported residents with compassion, professionalism, and deep-rooted community understanding. Her longevity speaks volumes about the culture we support within our care home.
June, one of our valued Care Practitioners, brings warmth and positivity to residents every day. Recently sharing the exciting news of becoming a first-time grandmother, she reflects the family-oriented environment that makes Hillcrest House feel like home.
Darryl, our newest maintenance team member, ensures our environment remains safe, comfortable, and welcoming. From maintaining shared spaces to supporting daily operations, his contribution plays a vital role in delivering quality residential and nursing care.
Together, they embody the values that underpin every Minster Care Group.
Award-Winning Excellence in Care Home Catering
We are proud to share that our Chef Manager, Natalie Cooper, recently received ‘The Special Award’ from Genuine Dining for going above and beyond in her role at Hillcrest House Care Home.
In April 2025, Natalie travelled 250 miles from High Wycombe to support our home on what was originally planned as a six-week secondment. During her time in Looe, she built strong relationships with residents and colleagues and chose to make Cornwall her permanent home.
Her dedication ensures that mealtimes are not only nutritious but also enjoyable, social, and comforting.
Recognition like this highlights the standards of excellence we strive to maintain across Minster Care Group.
