At Hillcrest House, we are delighted to celebrate the people and moments that make our home truly special. This week, we shine the spotlight on our wonderful resident Karen, honour the commitment of our team member Michelle, and share highlights from the joyful activities that bring life to Hillcrest.

Meet Karen

Karen, aged 68, has been a valued part of the Hillcrest family for nine years. She has lived locally while raising her daughter and has always enjoyed travelling — especially to Canada, where her sister Debby lives. Music is one of Karen’s greatest loves, with Fleetwood Mac being her favourite band. She also keeps a beautiful scrapbook filled with family photographs, treasured memories, and highlights of her time at Hillcrest. Staying connected with family remains important to Karen. She enjoys fortnightly Zoom calls with her sister, and earlier this year was delighted by an in-person reunion. Although non-verbal, Karen’s personality shines through her creativity, her family connections, and her warm presence at Hillcrest. She is a much-loved member of our community and a joy to celebrate.

Special Moments

Life at Hillcrest is full of wonderful moments that bring our community closer together:

  • Our colleague and carer Sue married Steve at the local Guildhall in August, and residents gathered to welcome the happy couple back after their ceremony. Leading up to the big day, residents joined in Sue’s hen do with creative activities, artwork, and even a sock-matching competition.
  • Cooper, our beloved 6-year-old fox red Labrador, is always a favourite visitor. He enjoys walks with residents like Bob and Val, shares cuddles with Madeline and George, and always brings joy wherever he goes.
  • Residents and staff came together for a lively summer celebration, with games, music, and laughter. Chef Natalie and Nick prepared a delicious buffet, making it a day to remember.
