Last month, our care homes celebrated National Gardening Day. For our residents, gardening is about more than just plants. It’s about connection, heritage, and the simple joy of watching something grow.

Herb gardens and heritage at The Lakes

In Towcester, residents took to the eight-acre grounds of The Lakes to tend to the herb garden. Trimming rosemary and tidying pathways sparked wonderful conversations about vegetable patches from decades past and parents’ prize-winning rose bushes. Our residents are now firmly in charge of designing the upcoming wildflower meadow.

Creative colour at Eagle View

Up in Scarborough, Eagle View took a creative approach to brightening the garden, whatever the weather. Residents filled pots with vibrant artificial plants, turning the afternoon into a session of storytelling and gentle competition over colour choices. Those proud displays are still brightening the garden today.

Scented memories at Elm Lodge

At Elm Lodge in Greenford, the focus was firmly on the senses. Potting lavender, mint, and rosemary across the home’s five households unlocked powerful memories including one resident’s vivid story about a rose arch she built 50 years ago, brought to life simply by the scent of crushed mint.
