Meet Joe
Meet Joe, our remarkable 100-year-old resident at Grenville Court in Norwich. Born in Shoreditch, London, Joe’s life is a rich tapestry of love, service, and adventure. Joe grew up in London, went on to college, and graduated from Bishops School. He later dedicated 47 years of his life to his second career as a chiropodist, helping others with care and compassion – a reflection of his lifelong dedication to service.
At just 18, Joe joined the RAF as an air gunner during World War II, serving from 1943 to the end of the war. He bravely completed 39 operations and travelled to France and Japan during his service. For his dedication, he was awarded the France and Germany Star Medal.
After the war, fate stepped in when Joe met his beloved Doris on a blind date at Liverpool Street Station. They married on Valentine’s Day in 1948 and built a beautiful life together, raising three children and becoming proud grandparents to seven. Joe has always loved sailing the Norfolk Broads and camping with Doris. Both led very active lives and later bought a caravan to tow and explore. In 2021, when Doris moved into Grenville Court, Joe visited her regularly on his scooter – a heartwarming symbol of true love. Sadly, Doris passed away a couple of years ago. Joe later joined us at Grenville Court in December 2024, where he continues to inspire us every day. A true family man, he still cherishes time spent with loved ones.

Armchair Travel Days – An Immersive Experience
Armchair Travel is a creative and immersive experience designed to bring the wonders of the world to our residents, all from the comfort of their care home. Our brilliant team organises a full “travel day”, where residents are given boarding passes, staff dress in airline uniforms, and we “fly” to a different country. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on a colourful and cultural journey that brought the sights, sounds, and flavours of Mexico straight to our home.
This month’s Armchair Travel Day took residents on an immersive experience with Grenville Airlines – complete with passports, boarding passes, and even a dedicated security guard and air hostesses to make it feel just like the real thing. The experience continued with a delicious Mexican lunch of quesadillas, nachos, and rice, followed by a fun-filled maraca decorating session, and lively music and dancing that had everyone joining in with a smile!
