My name is Lindsay Pugh. I have been in nursing since 1974, working mainly with surgical patients. Whilst having my four children I continued nursing, but left the NHS in 1986 when we moved to Cornwall where I took up my first post in a local Nursing Home.
I have been at Amberley House since 1992. I started working here as the Deputy Matron and two years later in 1994, became the Registered Manager.
My job is centred on ensuring high quality nursing care is provided to all our residents. I look upon the home, staff and its residents as an extended family and enjoy building relationships with the residents and their families so we all work together for the best outcomes for the residents.
The original building of Amberley House was in the early 1900’s and it has seen life as a family home, offices, and a school and since the 1980’s, with adaptation and extensions, a care home.
Amberley House is conveniently situated across the road from Truro Railway Station and close to bus routes. We have a supermarket close by and the main shopping centre is within walking distance. It is on a quiet residential street. We have a pleasant garden and a veranda to the front of the house where residents can sit on fine summer days.
I endeavour to meet and assess all residents prior to them coming to stay at Amberley. This gives them and their family an opportunity to ask any questions they may have. It also enables us to be sure we have all the correct facilities in place before admission. We encourage residents to bring favourite items, pictures ornament etc to make the residents room as homely as possible.
We have both Registered Nurses and Care Assistants working at Amberley House around the clock, backed up by housekeepers, cooks and other ancillary staff.
We have a very enthusiastic Activities Co-ordinator who organises outings, parties, and games as well as booking entertainments for the home. For those that would prefer a quieter time, she will sit and have a quiet cup of tea and a chat, help with writing a letter, or read from your favourite book. Our hairdresser is here every weekday and as well as doing hair cut and sets, also carries out hand massages and manicures.
We have a variety of bedrooms, mostly singles but we do have some double rooms for those wishing to share.
I found the staff really caring and my husband was very contented during his stay. Very much better than a stay in a previous home. It is more like a family environment.
