There are 40 single bedrooms. All rooms have television points. There are a number of bright, homely lounge areas throughout the home, one of which is for the use of residents who wish to smoke. There is a lounge with a flatscreen TV, which is also fitted with a hearing loop, a discreet device to improve sound reception and aid those with hearing difficulties. There are also quiet lounges and to visitor’s lounges, which residents can use to enjoy privacy with their families and friends when visiting. Further communal rooms include an activities lounge and a 1940s style lounge which is used for reminiscence activities. Residents can choose to eat in one of a number of dining rooms or in their own room if they prefer. There is a large conservatory, leading on to a pleasant garden area with wheelchair access, and barbecues are held there in the summer.

Additional services available to residents include a hairdresser who visits on a weekly basis, and newspaper and magazine deliveries which are arranged through a local newsagent. These services are charged on a weekly basis as used. There is also a shop trolley service for items such as greetings cards, toiletries, drinks and confectionery.

Lyndhurst enjoys an active social calendar and regular programme of events in which residents participate. This is designed to match residents’ interests and currently includes activities such as dominoes, skittles, bulls eye target game, quizzes, puzzles, Karaoke, sing-a-longs, dancing, handicrafts, hand massages, manicures, cream tea afternoons, film shows, DVD/Video nights, and baking days. Social evenings are organised with bingo and tombola. There are also excursions to places such as Southport, Blackpool, Smithills, Rivington Barn, barge trips in the summer and shopping trips. Lyndhurst holds an annual handicraft exhibition where we exhibit all the crafts that have been designed and made by our residents. These include items such as flower arrangements, cross stitch pictures, knitted items, pictures made with different materials and paint, and kits such as farm yard scenes and garages. Proceeds from this go back into activities in which all residents can participate.

Lyndhurst aims to make meals as pleasant and positive an occasion as possible. We offer a varied and wholesome diet, and cater for any special dietary requirements.

Regular Church of England and Catholic services take place within the home on a weekly basis, and we can arrange services for other denominations if required. There is a local church close which is attended by residents.

Lyndhurst is very close to the main shopping area of Leigh with an indoor and small outdoor market, shopping mall, supermarkets and small local shops. The library and town hall are close by and there are GP practices next door, across the road or round the corner.
