Thorley House

Welcome to Thorley House

Thorley House offers Residential, Short stay services and day care; Thorley House is a purpose-built home approximately one mile from Hindley town centre. The home has a dedicated care team and a well thought-out programme of daily activities, designed to reflect residents’ interests and wishes. It has been rated as a three star excellent service by the Care Quality Commission.

There are 40 single rooms including two with en suite facilities. All rooms have television points. Resident rooms are individually decorated and personalised with items of furniture and personal possessions, which is encouraged as an aid to maintaining independence and choice.

There are four lounges including a quiet room and visitors lounge. At least one lounge is fitted with a hearing loop, a discreet device to improve sound reception and aid those with hearing difficulties. Residents can choose to eat in one of two dining rooms or in their own room if they prefer. Thorley House is set within spacious grounds and there is a large well-kept garden at the rear of the building with patio areas. Both the garden and patio area are fully wheelchair accessible. There is something for everyone with the four lounges - a quiet lounge entertainments lounge and tv lounge, along with the visitors lounge including this as an extra space to entertain family and friends share a meal etc. in privacy.

We offer free wifi and can offer video calls for those who cannot visit regularly or live further afield.

Additional services available to residents include a hairdresser who visits once a week, and newspaper and magazine deliveries which are arranged through a local newsagent. These services are charged on a weekly basis as used. There is also a shop trolley service for items such as greetings cards, toiletries, drinks and confectionery.

Thorley House enjoys an active social calendar and activities are offered seven days a week. These are directed by the residents and are amended as needed. The most popular activities are shopping (one-to-one trips), film of the week, gentle movement to music, quizzes, bingo, handicraft, reminiscence (slides, memory box, scrap books, quizzes and so on), walks gardening, internet surfing, nail care and a range of games including skittles, bagatelle, carpet bowls and dominoes.

Thorley offers flexible meal times and a choice of menu. Snacks and drinks are available around the clock. There is a visitor’s room with facilities for making snacks and drinks. We ensure positive mealtime experiences for all residents including those with special needs, and aim to accommodate individual needs in a discreet manner and without disruption to others. Residents are encouraged to retain their independence as long as possible and this is facilitated by the way in which meals are served and table settings arranged to meet the eating needs of residents.

Weekly services are held in the home by local Church of England and Roman Catholic ministers. Arrangements can be made to visit other churches if requested in advance.

Thorley House is well situated close to shops and a leisure centre. It is approximately one mile from Hindley town centre and four miles from Wigan town centre.

To all at Thorley House, on behalf of myself and my family I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for the amazing care and support you offered my mum EB during her many years at Thorley House. In particular I cannot praise the efforts and consideration offered by all of the team involved in the day to day running of Thorley House from the domestic staff to management. During the last few months my family and I are grateful for the kindness, love and support offered to my mum as well as to our family during a very difficult and emotional time. All staff were there to offer a hand, hug and plentiful supply of tea and coffee, nothing was too much trouble! As a family we are impressed by the level of care and support that you offered to my mum as a resident as well as to our family during the last few weeks of my mum’s life, there are not enough words to express our gratitude and appreciation. Thank you for all your hard work and for going above and beyond! AC
