New Milton House

Welcome to New Milton House

New Milton House is a purpose-built home close to Alsager town centre, and includes a specialist household, innovatively designed to support the needs of older people with dementia. New Milton House is very much a part of the local community, and the team makes every effort to ensure that there is a feeling of ‘home away from home’ and a friendly atmosphere. Moving to New Milton House should be a change of address and not a change of lifestyle and families are encouraged to play an active role in the home. There are 39 single bedrooms. All rooms have television points. There is a large conservatory for residents to relax in, along with two smaller lounge areas throughout the home. At least one of these is fitted with a hearing loop, a discreet device to improve sound reception and aid those with hearing difficulties. There is a large dining area or residents can choose to eat in one of the lounges or in their own room if they prefer. In the specialist household, there are two lounge / dining areas incorporating fully operational kitchenettes. These are furnished to a high standard including two large digital TVs and are designed to facilitate independence, whilst maintaining a safe environment for individuals. The home has a pleasant, wheelchair accessible garden with good views over Milton Park.

Additional services available to residents include a hairdresser, who visits the home on a twice weekly basis, and newspaper and magazine deliveries which can be arranged through a local newsagent. These services are charged on a weekly basis as used. There is also a mobile library service to the home and a shop trolley service selling items such as greetings cards, toiletries, confectionery and soft drinks.

New Milton House has a regular programme of activities designed to reflect residents’ interests. This currently includes regular Music for Health sessions to promote health and wellbeing, trips to local garden centres such as Trentham Gardens, regular church services and hymn singing coordinated by the local vicar, monthly trips to the local Church coffee morning, outside entertainers brought in to visit the home, newspaper discussion groups, gentle exercise sessions, art & craft work, gardening, including planting and watering, and shopping trips. Residents of the dementia household participate in all home activities, and in addition, we work separately with these residents to promote and maintain life skills, and acknowledge and value the person as an individual. Activities within the household include cooking, light house keeping activities and watching and feeding the wildlife in the sensory garden including bats, birds and hedgehogs.

New Milton House operates Marvellous Mealtimes initiative and aims to make meals as pleasant and positive an occasion as possible. We have a protected meal time policy which asks all visiting professionals to attempt to avoid these times where possible. This provides a more relaxed and uninterrupted social activity for our residents to enjoy. We offer a varied and wholesome diet, and cater for any special dietary requirements. We also hold regular themed evenings such as Italian, Chinese etc. The dementia household has two fully operating kitchens which enable residents to participate in food preparation and cooking. This enables flexibility of meal times and choice.

New Milton House enjoys excellent links with all denominations, including Methodist, Catholic and Church of England, and is regularly visited by the local vicar who holds services and hymn singing sessions. Communion is delivered in the home to those who wish each Sunday.

New Milton House is situated in a prime location adjacent to Milton Park, and enjoys excellent views, as well as proximity to local amenities. A local library, churches, shops, cafes, a post office and several banks/ building societies can all be reached by foot.

My mother has been here nearly a year and has received the very best care and attention from day one. This home provides the closest thing to a home from home environment for both my mother and the family when we visit. The staff truly care and take time to find out each residents likes and dislikes, the food is all home cooked and always well balanced as well as delicious. The activities range from those who are more outgoing to those who prefer quieter pastimes. The home has a number of areas to relax in but my mother often chooses her room, which is always spotless as are her clothes and bedding. The hairdresser on site is an extra bonus and ensures my mother always looks her best. It was a hard decision for all of us to choose residential care but now we couldn't contemplate anywhere else, I live over 1 1/3 hrs away but I know can always pick up the phone to speak to my mother or to the staff if I have any questions and without fail they all know exactly where and how my mother is.

Since my mother-in-law has been placed in New Milton House she had received the best of care from both management and staff. It was very difficult for the first few weeks but the staff had the ability to ease her mind and gradually help her to settle into her new life at New Milton House. Six months on now and she is very happy and content with her life at New Milton House. She now has friends to talk to which she didn't at home and enjoys a good social life inside and outside the home. She joins in most of the activities now. Any problems that have arisen have been taken care of promptly by either staff or management, on the whole, it is an excellent home.

My mum was taken into New Milton House on 3rd March 2017 as her dementia was causing her to self-neglect, since that day my mum has become clean and lovely lady she was years ago, she has been looked after so well the care she has received has been excellent. The home provides such a high standard of care, for their residents with lots of interaction, games, quizzes, trips out tot he theatre, coffee shops, summer fair etc, always something going on. It is run to a very high standard.

My friend passed away in April and I wrote these comments on a review card at the time. However due the inevitable work involved with a friends passing, I mistakenly omitted to post it. Even though it is now some months since my friends passing, the sentiments are still very relevant and I want to formally record that I cannot speak highly enough of EVERYONE involved in my friends care at New Milton House in Alsager. Right through the entire team, from the Senior Management and Carers, to the administrators, caterers and cleaners, the attention and support given to my friend was just heart warming and was so very much appreciated. My friend spent just under a year with 'her new family' at 'her new home' and the love and support by the staff, right up to the very moment my friend passed away, was just amazing to witness. The carers gave something of themselves in a truly loving, genuine way and is something I will never forget. "Thank you" somehow seems inadequate.

My old friend was 90 years old and in the last month of her life all the staff at the home went over board looking after her. She had lived there for over three years and she called it her "hotel". The staff were extremely friendly and caring about their residents. The home was always clean and tidy. At first when she went there they used to take her on little trips out, which she thoroughly enjoyed. If she wanted to join in there were all kinds of activities she could do. She particularly enjoyed the quizzes they had and also the entertainments they had. I can honestly say she really enjoyed living there and was extremely well cared for.

Lovely home set right next to a beautiful park. Particularly liked the meal arrangements in the Dementia Care Unit - just brilliant. Staff were always cheerful and were often outstanding, always showing empathy and understanding to residents and relatives. Many went well beyond the bounds of expectation, especially during my sister's final days, when their treatment of her, and us, was incredible. We will be forever grateful.

My aunt, aged 95, has always refused to go into a care home but, although had always had lots of help with carers at home, there came a time after several falls at night (most vulnerable time) when there was no option for her. After only a short time it was obvious that it was the best decision she made. The staff and manager of the home are wonderful. Such a homely feel and nothing too much trouble. They take the time to get to know a person, their likes and dislikes and make them part of a family. Thank you. I now have peace of mind.
