Welcome to Whetstone Hey

Whetstone Hey is a purpose-built home in Great Sutton, approximately two miles from Ellesmere Port town centre. Set within pleasant grounds, Whetstone is a pleasant and friendly home, well served by local amenities and highly regarded in the community.

Whetstone Hey has 40 single rooms including two with en-suite facilities. All rooms have television points.  There are a number of lounge areas and dining rooms around the building, and a quiet room. One of the lounges is fitted with a hearing loop, a discreet device to improve sound reception and aid those with hearing difficulties. There are also pleasant gardens at the front and an enclosed patio to the side which provides safety and privacy. There is a greenhouse for those who are green fingered. All areas are wheelchair accessible.

Additional services available to residents include a hairdresser who visits twice a week and newspaper and magazine deliveries which are arranged through a local newsagent. A holistic therapist also visits the home on a weekly basis. These services are charged on a weekly basis as used. Chiropodist visits can be arranged. There is also a weekly mobile shop service and mobile library visits on a monthly basis.

Whetstone Hey employs an activities co-ordinator who works with residents and care teams to arrange activities and outings that reflect residents’ interests. Events currently taking place regularly include singing sessions with visiting entertainers, bingo, board games, baking and shopping trips. Other seasonal activities include canal boat trips, barbecues, and singers performing within the home. Whetstone has also recently applied for Pat a dog visits and is awaiting the first canine visit to the home.

The home operates Marvellous Mealtimes initiative, with meals being served in a pleasant and relaxed manner, and a social atmosphere is promoted. Residents can occasionally access the main kitchen for involvement in meal preparation, by prior arrangement. There are also two small kitchen areas where residents can make use of tea and coffee making facilities, and prepare sandwiches or other simple snacks. Menus are varied on a five week cycle and all special dietary requirements are catered for.

Whetstone Hey recognises all denominations. Church of England and Roman Catholic services are held within the home for those who wish to attend communion. We will also arrange visits from representatives of other denominations as required by residents.

Whetstone Hey is within walking distance of local shops. These include a late shop selling a variety of foods and non-food items, a chemist, florist, local hairdressers, barbers, opticians and a dental practice. There are also a number of food shops and a delicatessen. Members of the home team will undertake errands for residents or accompany them to the shops if they would like assistance. A little further away are two pleasant garden centres with tea rooms. For those interested in local history, the Ellesmere Boat Museum is relatively close by. The home is directly on a bus route, with good links to Ellesmere Port and Chester.
