Welcome to Ancliffe

Ancliffe is a large purpose-built home approximately one mile from Wigan town centre. The home is set within spacious grounds, and all accommodation is situated on the ground floor. Ancliffe enjoys excellent links within the local community and residents are able to interact with people from all ages.

Ancliffe has 40 single bedrooms, four of which have en suite facilities. All rooms are comfortable and spacious, and have television points. There are five separate lounge areas and three dining rooms. At least one of the lounges is fitted with a hearing loop, a discreet device to improve sound reception and aid those with hearing difficulties. There are also pleasant gardens with easy wheelchair access.

A number of services are available to residents. For example, a hairdresser visits on a weekly basis; newspaper and magazine deliveries are arranged with a local newsagent and a shop / trolley service is available for items such as greeting cards and personal toiletries.

There is an activities co-ordinator who arranges a wide choice of activities, according to residents’ interests. Activities take place in groups as well as one-to-one sessions with residents. Group activities include bingo, card making, scrabble, musical exercises, glass painting, making key rings, computer sessions, dominoes, reminiscence games, musical quizzes, visits from entertainers, use of Nintendo DS games, excursions, a Beatle drive, board games and shopping trips. Ancliffe also enjoys good links with the local schools, and receives visits from the children at Christmas as well as regular visits from the Brownies. The home is sponsored by the local Asda distribution centre, who donate gifts for the monthly bingos and pay for the residents to enjoy a trip to the local garden centre ensuring that they have a wonderful time and come back with a variety of plants and shrubs to enjoy in the outside sitting areas.

There is a varied and nutritious menu which is changed regularly. Breakfast is a choice from orange juice and cereals to a full cooked breakfast. Lunch is a light meal with three or four choices offered, and the evening meal is the main meal, again with a choice of at least three main meals. Special diets such as diabetic, low fat, gluten free or vegetarian are all available on request. There are three dining areas and the cooks prepare a varied and nutritious menu. Residents who prefer to eat meals in the privacy of their room can opt to do so.

There are church services and communion visits weekly or residents can choose to go out to church if they prefer. St Paul’s Church of England church is next door to the home. A Roman Catholic church, St Jude’s, is approximately 200 yards away, and there is a Methodist church across the road.

The home is close to a number of supermarkets and shopping centres, and is just three miles from Wigan town centre. Other nearby facilities which are within a local bus ride include Pemberton shopping centre, Alexander Park Newtown, Wigan Park, Haigh Hall country park, Three Sisters recreation area, Haydock race course, the Monocco ballroom which puts on shows, Wigan Little Theatre, Wigan Pier heritage centre.
